I'm Aaron!
I spent 6 years learning Spanish in school, and graduated barely able to speak at all. That was before I learned HOW to learn languages. Now I speak English, Spanish, French, Esperanto, some Thai, and I'm actively learning Greek.
Stick around and we'll discuss what you should be doing to finally learn that language that's been on your mind.
A new language will enhance your life!
I also have my own Esperanto only channel which you can see here: ruclips.net/channel/UC21NBss-ioqoDpvZsKl5niw
If you would like to take private language lessons from me, you can find more information here: sites.google.com/view/fingtamlessons/home

bro, you're an absolute legend, respecting you from Russia, i'm a student of linguistics, love you, mate!!!
Very enlightening and no offense, entertaining. You say “fire” like I’ve never heard before.
Gotta love coming across one of these videos and learning that you've been doing it entirely correct this whole time.
Sesame street to learn german it is a veeeery good show if you want to start there.
You need something to give you the baseline to start learning from other sources.
Are you poliglot, sir? How many languages do you learn? Which of them is your favorite?
I read Nancy Drew for extensive reading and Wikipedia for intensive one ❤❤😂
I enjoy Olly Richard short stories. The same stories (science fiction, history, adventure) have the same enjoyable stories told in 15 different languages and include glossaries and questions. Some are beginners and intermediate.
Basic answer: Duolingo is the head start which helps you learn a new language. You will need a new app to achieve fluency.
Fingtam means i farted in Hungarian :))
Helloooo I’m going to have linguistics exam this week, with Syntax and Parts of speech! Your videos are being really helpful! Thank you for explaining what my teacher didn’t explained well 🙂
As a native portuguese speaker, I understood everything. I've been postponing learning spanish because I can't roll my Rs to save my life 😂
Len’s words touch my soul.
Thank you for advise
This is cool i kinda wish i would have invented it, great idea
So no one... really?? Okay, I'm not afraid to say it..... But this dude is so cute and so HOT!! Grrrrrr 😜
Hi Aaron, hope you're doing well! I've watched you for years you really helped me when i was living in Spain learning Spanish. i just came across your '4 steps to learning a language with books' again and thought i'd look you up. So sorry to hear about this news, it's obvious in this video how hard this time was for you and maybe you dont want to click on this video to revisit it so you'll maybe never read this comment. if you do i just want to say thank you and i hope you've found some peace, all the best.
You can't imagine how much you've helped me!!!
I'm fed up with people complaining that duolingo is ineffective. I don't give a s. about being effiecitve. I've been learning french in an ineffective way since 2 years on duolingo It's still better than giving up an effective way after copuple of days.
off topic but it's crazy how the pokemon games you show in this video are almost over $100 now
This is how I learned english almost only youtube and listening to others speak
Please answer this from your learning experience. I got a new Spanish book. And I can’t read it. How can I read a book with a new language. What do you do. Do you get anybody that read for you. Or you get new books with an audio sound to help you to read in a new language thank you
regarding the "knight" question... so why would english have SUCH a stark difference in writing v pronunciation when other languages appear to maintain spelling/pronunciation more
I have been using Immersive translate for language learning and it is such a commendable app
Hated it. Never liked an app that punishes you with getting tests right or wrong. LingQ and Anki are the one's I've used since 2020. It did get my foot in the door of some of the basic phrases and words. There's also NOTHING about the culture of the language. It's just dead dissociated words and phrases and cheesy conversations.
I do that 😂 at least I learned the name of it
There's a reason I'm calling my phase of critical, "rote" study the "outside linguist" phase - I'm not (yet) trying to learn the language, I'm trying to analyze its functioning as a linguistic entity, as an amateur linguist and non-polyglot (I can say "my name is [name]" or "I call myself [name]" or "I am [name]" in so many languages, but those are all just phrases that I've chambered to fire when needed. Mijn (of mÿn) naam is Ellenor. Je m'appelle Ellenor. for instance). I'm also writing what I call a "Division Field Guide" issued by a non-existent division of a non-existent ministry (department, to you) of a non-existent country, which is just my notebook about the language, where I try to make connections and figure out how it works as a linguistic entity.
"Yew wuz cot doin boat tings" Language of origin (etymology) should be reflected in pronunciation of words. The word "envelope" comes from French, implying the leading E should be pronounced like 'awn vuh lope'. The last E is effectively silent, but implies that the O should be hard sound, not a soft one. Pronouncing the leading E as a schwa or EH, and the same for the successive E, changes it completely away from its French phonetic origin.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: in order to acquire a new language you must learn like a baby. Three languages in so far, and it works the best. Watch things without subtitles, babble on, ask native speakers, think in that language as much as possible, immerse yourself as much as you can.
thank you ! it is amazing knowing what you are saying .💚
Sorry to hear🙏hope you well now
Szia
Anyone know if the gluttol stop used in the south developed independently or together with that in Scots?
I think the relationship between English and Scots can be best compared to Spanish and Portuguese. The further north an English speaker goes, the better they understand scots. Likewise, as you move from Castillian to Leonese to Galicia to Portuguese, you'll find people better understand the neighbouring language. Like as an L2 Spanish speaker, i can actually understand a lot of Gallego, but nothing of Portuguese. Although apparently gallegos can have fluent conversations with Portuguese speakers. The main difference jn the two situations is recognition, both official and in the popular imagination
You gotta skip to the next section as soon as you feel comfortable because it is repetitive to go through each lesson… Duolingo works pretty well when you do that! And the streak helps you reinforce everyday learning which passive learners never do. If you’re gung-ho about achieving fluency then Duolingo is not for you but who is??? Very few want realistic fluency
Thanks for the video and book recommendation ☺
Duolingo is a good start to learning a language, but it's not enough. Effective for people who are starting to learn a new language, I would definitely say yes
I find this video very benefical. Thank you.
Instead of wasting my time on Instagram reels, I love to waste my time on Duolingo...
Thank you so much this helped a lot!❤
Can you explain this to me because I have a fear that, for example, if I learn words in context by using them in sentences with Anki, I will just memorize them in this context, and if I encounter that word in a different context in a book, I won't understand what it means or can this not happen?
THIS HEADING FOR THE VIDEO,, SHOULD SAY USELESS TALKING
Let me know when they add hebrew into the available languages please.
Excellent video
I bought Lingopie and I’m hoping this helps me learn Spanish finally. I watch cartoons with subtitles in Spanish and English. It still makes flashcards because I do feel like u need to learn vocab especially when first starting out. I don’t have to take the time out to look up a word, it does it for me. Idk I guess we’ll see if it helps. I just started it.
Apparently duolingo sponsored this
wow , ahh
Dictionary learning using a list of vocabulary worked fine for me learning english and japanese. Just required a lot of grit, grinding and repetition ad nauseum.
Really impressive I'm going to come back to this in a month and see how much I understand without subtitles then again in 2 months then 3 To test my comprehension and listening skills
